Individual Testimonials

"Hi Beth... I want to thank you for all your help and guidance over the 4 or 5 years that we met. You put me on a path that continues to lead me in the direction I had always hoped to find myself. I have had amazing improvements and find my life is filled with joy (stress still exists; I just seem to handle it differently). I have made many, many changes to my eating and food choices and the most amazing of the end results is the fact that my depression has been lifted. I have not felt depressed in over 6 months and wake up each morning with not one inkling of that overwhelming heavy, sadness…. What a gift! I keep looking over my shoulder (old habits die hard) thinking it may be creeping up on me, but so far, so good.
I remember that last time we spoke, we did discuss talking perhaps on a monthly basis around life coaching and I have not put that idea aside, but just haven’t moved on it as yet.
I wish you success in your upcoming session, good health & happiness."
    – Phyllis

"Beth Rontal is a wonderful therapist. I have been working with her since 2005. It is now 2009 and I still have a lot of work to do. I was angry and depressed and I did not love two of my three children. I was mean to Beth. I would not show up sometimes when it was my scheduled day for sessions. I had panic attacks and anxiety really bad. Beth helped me to overcome my panic attacks and anxiety and now I love my two children that I did not care for at all. I am honest with Beth. I trust her and she knows everything about me. The Tapas Acupressure Technique is what helped me get over my fear of riding the train. I am less depressed due to my medications and Beth’s encouragement and counseling. I still don’t love myself and I am working on feeling better about myself but in time I will be fine. Beth is the greatest. I am so glad I have her in my life."
    – Tracie

"Beth Rontal has been the greatest positive influence in my life. I've gone through amazing growth with her guidance - kicking and screaming at times but never at more than my own pace, or pushed beyond my capability to handle the change in myself. She showed me that there was a way out of the very dark place I'd been living in, just by facing it with me, and bringing a little bit of light along with her.
I'm learning to live with myself and embrace the possibility of a future with the help of the tools she taught me to utilize. She introduced me to several forms of self-analysis, and I've had good experiences with the T.A.T (Tapas Acupressure Technique) and IFS (Internal Family Systems), both helping me rediscover and map out my own mind (and as it turns out, I do enjoy having fun after all). Anything she brings to the table is offered without expectations or unfair pressure, and that has allowed me to relax and feel more comfortable and open to new things.
Also, simply talking to her has taught me more about how to successfully deal with people than I managed to pick up in twenty years on my own. She always speaks as an equal, never displaying the overbearing or obnoxiously superior mannerisms some professional head shrinkers pull off so effortlessly. Beyond that she is open and sympathetic when I just need to vent about something - sometimes I need to be told it's okay to scream when I feel angry, and in her office all thoughts and feelings are welcome. Her open-mindedness makes it easy to open up, and I find myself walking into new, and often quite profound epiphanies as I explain the things that go on in my head to her.
I'm so much stronger now, because she believed that there was something more in me, and I believed in her. That faith has never proven to be unwisely granted. I can now consider myself to be a work-in-progress rather than a botched masterpiece. That change still amazes me, and she has been gracious enough to never say 'I told you so' - and to laugh along with me when I acknowledge her right to do so."
    – Elizabeth

"We have been working with Beth Rontal for several years in the context of personal therapy and family therapy. In my past experience with other therapists, I often struggled to identify what real progress had been made as a result of the therapy. Beth’s approach has been incredible. She has truly worked with us, challenged us to self-identify areas where growth has been necessary and provided us tools that have facilitated making positive changes to how we communicate, react, and interact with one another. We entered into family therapy with the intent of supporting our children and have experienced positive growth ourselves."

Group Testimonials

"Sugar doesn't talk to me anymore. I stopped binge eating through using TAT directly on the habit of binge eating and on emotions such as abandonment related to bingeing."
    – Fran

"This has been a terrible week with my husband's health and our relationship but I'm completely in control about food. I'm sticking to my eating plan and losing weight."
    – Leah

"I always regarded eating as a symptom rather than the problem, so my much improved eating reflects overall stress management. Everyone has noted that I look more rested and relaxed and I certainly feel it.  ... My blood pressure, which was medication resistant, has dropped from 155 over 110 to about 125 over 85 in two months.
Eating is going amazing well, with one bout of craving that I addressed with TAT. The craving went away for a bit and then resurfaced. I did TAT again, it again went away and the next time it appeared I gave it a lot of thought ... about the associations with that food and the circumstance in which I enjoyed it. Then I recreated what I could of the larger experience minus the food component. That was several weeks ago and the craving has not reoccurred.
Another thing that's changed is the way I shop. I used to buy things like WW Latte Bars thinking that for 90 calories, they were acceptable treats in case of an ice-cream craving. But since I haven't been having cravings, I don't need foods like that anymore.
I am very glad I took the TAT workshop. I liked the sense of community although our experience and difficulties where very different. It appears that it was just at the right time in my life to hear it and engage with it and it's made a huge difference."
    – Elizabeth

"This was a great, spirited, enthusiastic and supportive group! We had a high level of trust, hopefulness and mutual support with a great sense of humor"
    – Linda

“I’ve lost 20 lbs and my blood sugar was in 'normal range' … I feel much more confident about continuing to lose weight until I reach a healthy body mass index. I’m able to feel safe when exercising and have much better self-esteem and body image.”
   – AP

"As I worked my way through various life traumas I discovered a yearning to write that was at my core. As one trauma after another cleared up I felt free to do more writing. I even dare to call myself a writer again. Something has settled in me. It feels like I’m living my true purpose."
    – LC (lost and has kept off 25 lbs)

Professional Supervision Testimonials

"Beth and I worked together for a few years before she became my clinical supervisor. As her colleague, I always respected her ability to connect with clients and reach them at a level few others could. As her supervisee, I was able to experience first-hand the expansive clinical knowledge that Beth possesses. She has considerable skills regarding a multitude of theoretical frameworks and has insight into which interventions are most likely to be effective."
    – Robin Bell, LICSW

"Beth Rontal has been providing clinical supervision to me for the past 2 years. Beth has achieved the perfect balance of being challenging while nurturing. Beth has exposed me to various modalities such as energy work and Internal Family Systems. She has piqued my curiosity and provided me with many clinical tools to use in the field. I feel more confident in my clinical skills as a result of her feedback and insight. Beth has been a critical component in my development as a clinician and we were both very pleased that I recently became an LICSW. I am grateful to have a supervisor who always has a fresh perspective on clients' issues and my own transference. We have been able to address transference openly and I am a better and more effective clinician as a result. I would highly recommend Beth to my colleagues."
    – Christine Cannon, LICSW

"Over the last three years in Supervision with Beth Rontal I have received support, encouragement, guidance, new knowledge and insight. The supervision I receive affects the therapy I provide to my clients by bringing new light into the therapeutic setting. Beth helps me see things in a different perspective and grow as a therapist by providing me with new techniques, skills and interventions to use with specific clients based on their individual needs. Supervision guides me toward taking additional trainings and workshops specific to the population I serve. By becoming more educated I grow as a professional. As a person, supervision reminds me that I am human and it helps keep me grounded in a potentially unpredictable and demanding field."
    – Elizabeth, LCSW

"Beth Rontal is the most effective and supportive supervisor I have ever worked with. She shared her vast knowledge and experience as a guide for my work with clients through constructive feedback and suggestions. She did this in a way that also validated my assessment and opinion and supported me in developing my own style of working with clients. Beth gave me assessment tools, suggested specific interventions, modeled techniques and recommended relevant reading and training, all of which improved my skills and confidence. I found Beth’s knowledge of Internal Family Systems (IFS) work to be especially helpful. I also felt supported as a person through Beth’s supervision. She understood the impact of my personal life on me as a therapist and created space to reflect on this when needed. Beth skillfully identified possible counter transference and explored it in a non judgmental and helpful way. Beth was organized in documenting supervision hours and available for phone supervision if needed during an emergency or crisis. Beth’s enthusiasm for her work and the healing power of the relationship between client and therapist is very motivating and it made supervision with her extremely enjoyable."
    – Sara Brophy, LCSW

"Beth Rontal is an eternal optimist who is able to see the good in most everything and most everyone. She has an exquisite command of therapeutic techniques, which creates hope for the hopeless. She selflessly dedicates herself as a family member, teacher, performing artist and is a genuine humanist."
    – Charles Granoff, LICSW
Clinical Supervisor at Community Services Institute
